Smart Cookie

Kajal Agarwal is a clever young girl who is very ambitious and goes about her career with the astuteness of a professional chess player.

The petite star's clever strategy helped her land Magadheera, the most successful film in Telugu cinema.

Kajal is now applying the same tactics in Tamil cinema and Bollywood as well. In Tamil, she has Maatran opposite Suriya and in Bollywood, after Singham with Ajay Devgn which was a huge hit, she is sitting pretty.

Kajal somehow managed to bag the role that Anushka Shetty had played in the Tamil original of Singam that had Suriya in the lead.

Her role model is Kajol, Ajay's wife and a superstar in her own right. Kajal did not get to meet Kajol though she really wanted to, but it is certain that the two will get along because both have beauty and brains.

Dhada: Naga Chaitanya's Action/Romance flick

It is very rare for a leading man or woman to get a break in big budget Indian cinema without a long lineage in the business, and Dhada star Naga Chaitanya is no exception. Both of Naga's grandfathers have deep roots in Telugu cinema, as does his father and his uncle, but Naga seems to be doing alright anyway.

Naga's debut with Josh won him a Filmfare award for best debut, and the roles that followed in last year's Ye Maaya Chesave and 100% Love that also did very well at the box office.

Dhada, Naga's next is listed as an action/romance, but the cast list with Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav and Ali only proves of plenty of inappropriate comedy thrown in with the drama.

Also on the cast list is Sriram (aka Srikanth) and the pan-Indian starlet, Kajal Agarwal, who recently made her Bollywood debut with Ajay Devgn's Singham having made quite a name for herself in the south Indian film industries.

Friday (July 22) morning saw the puja launch of K V Anand's upcoming flick Maatran.

The film features Suriya and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles and has music by Harris Jayaraj. It marks the return of the Ayan superhit combination.

It will be my most exciting film; I can vouch for that, said the actor recently, whose 7am Arivu with director A R Murugadoss is yet to hit screens. Looks like Suriya, who celebrates his birthday today, is all set to rock!

Singham and its controversy

Ajay Devgn starrer Singham raked up to controversy on the very first day of its release in the state of Karnataka on Friday 22nd July.

Protesters from Karnataka Rakshana Vedike tore movie posters and damaged facilities in theatres in Bidar, Hubli, Bagalkot, Raichur, and Bijapur, alleging that Kannadigas were portrayed in a disparaging manner in the movie. They were furious about a particular reference to Kannadigas being referred as dogs in the movie, in a line of dialogue delivered by Devgn.

Prakashraj, who plays the villain, has his origin in Karnataka and the controversial scene starts off with Prakashraj threatening Devgn that he would bring 1,000 people from Karnataka border to thrash him. Ajay (who plays Bhajirao Singham, a Maratha) retorts that one lion would suffice to shoo away a thousand dogs.

"This is an insult to Kannadigas," said an angry Suresh Kumar, a protester in Bidar.

Many theatres stopped the shows. The protests too came down after the distributors announced that the controversial dialogue had been removed.

Actor Prakashraj said that the dialogue has been misunderstood and blown out of proportion.

"There is nothing controversial about it. I am a Kannadiga. How would I allow conversations that provide pain to people of Karnataka in any movie in which I am cast?" he asked.

He added that in the view of public interest, the scene has now been removed.

Rohit Shetty's tribute through Singham

Rohit Shetty who paid a tribute to the 70s in his last, Golmaal 3 with Mithun Chakraborty's character is all set to take his 70's inspiration a step further in his next.

The Ajay Devgn—Kajal Aggarwal starrer Singham, Shetty has not just drawn inspiration but entire fight sequences from 70's blockbusters Amar Akbar Anthony and Zanjeer.

Ajay Devgn who plays a angry young cop named Bajirao Singham in the film titled after his character, will be seen enacting the same cuts and chops and mouthing the same dialogues in the film.

A source revealed, "The famous scene from Amar Akbar Anthony between Vinod Khanna a cop and Amitabh Bachchan the goon has been re-enacted in Singham.

The scene has Vinod Khanna unbuttoning his police uniform to beat up Amitabh. In Singham, Ajay Devgn who plays a cop, does the same to Ravi Beasant. In fact, the dialogue between Ajay and Ravi are similar to the ones between Vinod and Amitabh."

And that's not all. "There is a scene similar to a scene from the 1973 hit Zanjeer as well. The scene where Pran walks into a police station and tries to sit on a chair, which Amitabh Bachchan kicks away and says, 'Jab tak baithne ko kahaa na jaaye, tab tak chup chaap khade raho,' has been re-created in Singham. In this film, the scene has been picturised on Ajay Devgn and Marathi actor Ashok Samarth," added the source.

Seems like Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn are all set to recreate the 70s magic on screen with Singham. "Rohit wanted to pay a tribute to the 70's and also to the original angry young man of Indian cinema, Mr Amitabh Bachchan," said the source.

When contacted, the official spokesperson from the film confirmed the existence of the scenes in Singham and added, "They are used as a tribute to the films of 70's.

Rohit and Ajay have grown up watching these films. These are iconic scenes and we have tried to pay them a tribute through our film."

Kajal's loss and Shruti's gain..

Kajal Agarwal was supposed to do the Telugu remake of Dabangg with Pawan Kalyan. But due to certain differences with her director, she was shown the door. This altercation worked out for Shruti Hassan, as she was immediately offered the meaty role which catapulted Sonakshi Sinha, who did the Hindi version opposite Salman Khan into superstardom.

Shruti also has a film with Jr. NTR and another film with Siddharth. The singer/actor's career in Telugu films is red hot right now. In Tamil, she has 7am Arivu with Suirya directed by Murugadoss.

Things are looking less bright for Kajal as she seems to have become controversy's favorite child and this is affecting her career adversely.

Kajal's clarification..

Kajal Agarwal who paired with Karthi in Naan Mahan Alla says that Ranjini is the perfect match for Karthi.

At this point of time, when Karthi is engaged to Ranjini who hails from Erode District. Kollywood and Tollywood to ban Kajal

Kajal Agarwal has got into trouble for making a statement during the promo event of the Hindi flick Singham, which is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Singam, starring Suriya. The actress had said that she never considered herself to be a south Indian actress as she is a north Indian by birth.

This comment has now snowballed into a huge controversy. The Tamil and Telugu film fraternity are upset with Kajal Agarwal for making such a statement when she depended on these film industries till she got an offer to star in a Hindi film.

There is a widespread demand that Kajal should apologize for her statement, if not she will have to face a ban.

Stop using my name: Kajal Agarwal

She is undoubtedly amongst the most wanted actors in the South Indian film industry. Actor Kajal Aggarwal, who has had great success in Tamil and Telugu film industries, is currently unhappy with makers in Sandalwood who have gone on to claim that she’s going to be part of their films.

The film in question is Bul Bul, the Kannada remake of her Telugu superhit Darling opposite Prabhas, which is to be produced by Dinakar Thoogudeep. It has MD Sridhar as its director and Darshan has been roped in for the lead role. The production team has already announced that Kajal will be a part of the film.

“I haven’t signed any Kannada film. I don’t know why my name has been dragged into this. I haven’t been approached by anyone either. Why do people use my name? I’m currently busy with three films, one each in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. I’ve not signed anything else.” a rather angered Kajal clarifies.

Kajal, who has always maintained that she is open to act in films in all languages, says, “I’m from Mumbai, but I’ve received immense love and acceptance from the film industries in South India. I’m always game to do a Kannada film in case I get a good script.”

The actor is justified in being miffed considering this isn’t the first time that her name has been dragged into publicity. Around a year back, debutant film-maker Raghu Hassan, who was to be making a film titled Tathasthu with newcomer Chiraag in the lead, had made similar claims.

Raghu had then said, “I tried casting Sonam Kapoor. Unfortunately, she did not have the required dates. So I looked for someone of the same personality down south and finalised on Kajal.” Neither did Kajal do the film, nor have we heard anything more from the maker.

Ajay's Fidelity

Bollywood is one place where people take it for granted that relationships are most fickle. And if gossip columns are to be believed then some actor is cheating on his or her girlfriend or spouse almost everyday. But actor Ajay Devgn, begs to differ and says that things can be hunky dory between a couple if they work towards making it that way. Ajay, who is married to actor Kajol for about a decade now, believes that once a person makes a commitment to another, they should honour it for a lifetime.

The actor recently went on a reality show and when he was quizzed if it was natural for a man to cheat on his spouse if a ‘hot’ girl approached him and caught him unawares, Ajay denied the entire theory.

A source who was present on the sets of the reality show that puts one partner’s loyalty to test, says that Ajay endorsed the idea of commitment to the core. “He was taken aback when he saw youngsters treat cheating as just another fad and said that if a person truly honoured his relationship, he should consider his love unbreakable. It was nice to hear a much married man, from the film industry give some sane advice for a change,” says the source.

“You are either in a committed relationship or you’re not. You can’t be committed to someone and also consider options outside the relationship. The whole idea of getting ‘carried away’ by someone else’s charm, while in a relationship, is absolutely ridiculous!” said Ajay while passionately talking about the importance of fidelity in a relationship in today’s day and age.

“Ajay looks like he has very modern views and he probably does. But when it comes to basic issues, he is a traditional man and he proved it by reprimanding a girl who was cheating on her boyfriend. Let’s hope she takes his advice seriously.”

Ajay's "Singham" first look

As soon as he was done with his Golmaal 3, director Rohit Shetty didn’t take time to announce Singham with his friend Ajay Devgan. Once again he chose Goa, his favourite destination for shooting and completed Singham in a record time. Now the movie is ready to hit the theatres on July 22 and its first trailer released today with Salman Khan’s film Ready.

Ajay Devgan is back and this time he is not doing comedy but has a serious business to finish. He will throw fists at the baddies, and will fight injustice. For Singham, Ajay has gone through extensive weight training to get a beefed-up look. The actor has pumped iron to get those rippling muscles that his character requires in the film. The 42-year-old actor will show his six packs in the film which were not at all easy to get. Ajay trained under the fitness expert Prashant Sawant for three months.

Singham, a remake of a Tamil blockbuster with the same title, is about a brave cop in a small town played by Ajay. Newcomer Kajal Aggarwal, who has given several hits in the south, gets to play the heroine in the film.

The movie has right mix of fun and emotions along with some jaw-dropping action scenes performed by Ajay.

Dreams Come True . .

"My days as an assistant director in Chennai is unforgettable. My family was in Valasaravakkam. I would take the city bus and go to the Sathyam theatre to see many films," says director Rajamouli. He adds he always dreamt of watching his film at Sathyam and finally his dream is coming true.

Maaveeran, the dubbed version of Magadheera starring Ram Charan and Kajal is releasing in Chennai soon. Recollecting his memories the director at the audio release function spoke about his relationship with Chennai and expressed hope that the movie will do equally well in Tamil Nadu as well. Ram Charan too said he could never forget his school and the teachers in Chennai and declared he was a big fan of Kamal Hassan.

Ram Charan pulled it off when heroines fail . . .

Actor Ram Charan, son of Chiranjeevi, whose Maaveeran will be hitting the theatres shortly is overwhelmed with the warm reception he received from the Tamil industry. The journos were very surprised when he addressed them in perfect Tamil. Even the director Rajamouli and producer, Allu Aravind spoke in Tamil. This is amazing in an age where most of the heroines can barely string a sentence together in Tamil despite doing so many films in that language. They all received a thunderous applause from the delighted onlookers.

Ram Charan conveyed his gratitude to Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam for their kind words and encouragement. He said he loves Chennai as he spent his younger days in the city and it is close to his heart and hopes there will be more collaboration between the Tamil and Telugu film fraternities.

Charmi to shake as Munni

Power Star Pawan Kalyan is producing the remake of Salman Khan‘s Bollywood Blockbuster ‘Dabangg’ under his own banner Creative Works with Harish Shankar of Mirapakai fame as the director. Kajal Agarwal is to play the love interest for Pawan Kalyan in this remake titled ‘Gabbar Singh’.

In Hindi, the film had Malaika Arora’s sizzling item number ‘Munni Badnaam’ that played a crucial part in the Dabangg's success. Now, a similar song is being planned for the Telugu version too as everyone involved believed that the magic cannot be recreated without it.

Initially, the filmmakers did approach Malaika Arora to shake her sexy legs even for 'Gabbar Singh', but due to her heavy remuneration, she d to be kept aside with our very own sex bomb Charmi been roped for the song after a titillating item number that she had done for the film ‘Ragada’ that drove the audience applaude for more of her hotness.

The role of the cop's brother would be played by Srikanth while Krishnam Raju and Jayasudha are likely to play his parents.

The film would have Devi Sri Prasad scoring again for Pawan Kalyan after ‘Jalsa’.
