Poonam is not chickening out yet

Poonam Pandey has finally spoken up in her first interview ever since India lifted the Cricket World Cup. The 20-year-old Mumbai-based model, who had promised that she would do a full monty for the Indian cricket team if they won the tournament, says she went off the radar as she was scared for her life, but is not chickening out yet.

I was getting all sorts of calls from all over the world. Some were offering me work, while some were threatening me. They said, ‘If you go to the stadium, see what we will do. We will not let you reach there’,” she says.

But all that hasn’t deterred her from waiting patiently for the permission to go nude. “I am still on with my commitment, but I am waiting for official permission from BCCI. I will not break any law, as a lot of politicians are upset and I don’t want to upset them anymore.”

However, she has her share of supporters, too. “Some people have called to say that they’re proud of me. I have been getting offers from magazines and calendars to pose in the buff, and also been approached by reality TV show makers. But, I will strip only for the Indian cricket team. My commitment is not for anyone else,” she says.

Poonam's stunt publicity gimmick

Bollywood PR expert Dale Bhagwagar created a ruckus of laughs when he decided to impersonate the scandalous Poonam Pandey on his BlackBerry Messenger for a few minutes during the India-Sri Lanka World Cup Finals.

For the uninitiated, Poonam Pandey is a model who rose from obscurity to instant stardom, when she publicly offered to strip and go n*d* to “motivate” Team India for the finals and “boost their sporting spirit to perform better”.

In a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Poonam had stated that studies conducted by various universities abroad confirmed that such ‘performances’ inspired people to achieve better in any field, be it sports or otherwise. “Even medical books on psychology and psychiatry confirm this,” she had said. Taking off from here, with a few hilarious broadcasts on his Messenger, controversy specialist Dale Bhagwagar caught the attention of his huge list of elite BlackBerry contacts, which began liberally forwarding his messages not only on mobile space but also on Facebook and Twitter, bringing Poonam back into full media glare.

All this, just for mischief! Wonder what a firebrand the PR guru would have made out of the gutsy girl, just in case he was to handle her PR. After all, he’s the same publicist instrumental in propelling brands like Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Neetu Chandra, Rakhi Sawant, Kashmera Shah, Sherlyn Chopra and many more into national and international headlines.

While she is awaiting reply to the letter written to the BCCI seeking their permission to strip to boost their morale of the Indian cricket team, the Shiv Sena intimidated Poonam Pandey for making such indecent commitments and defaming the Indian culture.

Surprisingly, Poonam, who has become one of the most downloaded celebrities on the internet, also received a legal notice from Uttar Pradesh.

Poonam Pandey determined to strip

Model Poonam Pandey who shot to fame with her infamous and hot statement that she would strip to n*d* if world cup is won by Indian team says she is still committed to the promise. Poonam was equally searched on the internet during world cup last stages as people were amused and at the same time attracted by her bold statement.

Poonam Pandey even wrote to BCCI to give her permission to strip if India wins, but the Board of cricket has given her a deaf ear. Hence, Poonam couldn’t keep her promise at the Wankhede.

However, Poonam Pandey says that she is still committed to strip but only things are not in favor of her at the moment. “silence dsn’t mean i 4got Commitments. My disappearance dsn’t mean I dn’t care abt u all. its jus things whr getting tough 4a 19yr old girl,” Poonam tweeted.

Poonam Pandey threatened

Case of obscenity and a threat from Shiv Sena was enough to send model Poonam Pandey to go into hiding.

She swore to strip in the locker room for the boys, if they picked up the world cup, but now she has gone missing. Poonam did not expect the backlash from conservative parties for her bold publicity plan.

She has also received a legal notice from UP. The model's phone is switched off. Even her manager has not turned on his phone after India's world cup victory. Sorry guys, it doesn't look like the strip show is happening.

Sachin deserves the Bharat Ratna Honour: Dhoni

World Cup winning Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today joined the growing calls to award batting ace Sachin Tendulkar the Bharat Ratna, saying no cricketer deserves it more than him.

"Yes, 200 per cent, because he is an ideal candidate, he has served the country for 21 years with a few more to come. As a cricketer, you know, if he doesn't get it, then I don't think there's anyone who'll get the Bharat Ratna ever," Dhoni said.

"I think he's done really great things for the country, taking cricket to the next level. He's known even in places where they don't know about the game, so I think it's a very big achievement taking the country forward. He's done remarkably," the Chennai Super Kings skipper said at a press meet to kickstart the IPL's fourth season, starting on Friday.

The Dhoni-led CSK , which won the double of the IPL and Champions League title last season, open their season with a home game against a Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders.

Poonam Pandey hospitalised

Model Poonam Pandey, who had vowed to strip if India won the World Cup but turned out a no show, is hospitalised for an operation to remove kidney stones, says her publicist.

“She was admitted on Monday night because she was experiencing trouble in her kidney. She is likely to be discharged on

Tuesday night,” said her publicist. “But she will soon speak up,” he added. A couple of hours after this statement, the 20-year-old tweeted, “Be content to act but leave the talking to others”.

Although her phone remained switched off all through the India-Sri Lanka match, she posted a message on Facebook on Monday evening: ‘Hello Friends & Fans All over the World I am SAFE and On cloud 9!!! after INDIA made it :) But for ur Questions Kindly search the Letter Written by me to the BCCI on the net 3 days back!! AND I AM WITH MY COMMITMENTS!! (sic)” In the letter, she requests she could strip in a ”neutral venue like Paris,” but her lawyer Prashant Uchil says, “BCCI has not reverted.”

Patience pays off: Poonam Pandey

Model Poonam Pandey who requisitioned the Indian cricket board saying that her bare-all act will have a therapeutic effect on the Men in Blue, said on Monday she intends to stick to her commitment.

A tweet, purportedly of Pandey, said "once Steve Forbes said 'A promise made should be a promise kept.' so guys soon will complete my promise just Wait n watch."
The model had promised to strip if the Indian cricket team lifted the ICC 2011 World Cup trophy. The Indian team has delivered, and there was a growing clamour among netizens demanding that Pandey keep her side of the bargain.

Her mobile was reportedly switched off ever since the final match got over. The authenticity of the Twitter account she is supposedly tweeting from could not be verified.
Before the finals, Pandey wrote to BCCI that she was serious about baring it all for the boys, as it would be a therapeutic method to boost and inspire people to perform better in any field.

Immediately after the match was over, there were several Facebook captions such as, "Where is Poonam?", "I’m waiting for you Poonam", "Where the hell is Poonam Pandey. I bought an HD TV for you!". According to the latest news, she has requested the BCCI to choose another country such as Paris for her striptease, to avoid controversies in India.

Will Poonam do the striptease?

Poonam Pandey has finally spoken up after her silence and she has decided to too keep her promise to bare it all in front of the 2011 World Cup winners.

“Thanx a Lot All for ur Support!! I am Still on with My Commitments Stay TUNED,” Pandey posted on her Twitter page Monday.

The 19-year-old wannabe actress, had participated in Gladrags’ model hunt contest, and emulating the Paraguay lingerie model announced she would run nude if India lifted the Cup.

“Once Steve Forbes said ‘A promise made should be a promise kept.’ so guys soon will complete my promise just Wait n watch,” the model said on Monday night via Twitter.
Ms Pandey, after the victory, was nowhere to be seen. However, after much hullabaloo she issued a statement through her manager on Sunday that she was waiting for the BCCI permission. There has been no word from the cricket board.

Will Poonam Pandey strip?

She may or may not get to strip for the Men in Blue, but young model Poonam Pandey has sure got a lot of media attention as well as lucrative offers from international magazines that want her to pose naked.

The aspiring actress, who has grabbed headlines for stating that she will bare all if Team India wins the World Cup, has been flooded with offers from foreign glossies. But she has rejected them saying she will strip only for the Indian team.

‘So far she is flooded with many offers from India and world wide. Right from Indian reality shows to international magazines. More than that, she got a huge half million dollar offer from an international magazine to pose nude for their cover, but she rejected it as the act to go nude was only meant for team India to get home the World Cup and not to make fame and money. She is on cloud nine as India won the cup,’ said Poonam’s manager Vipin M.

The 19-year-old was one of the top eight contestants of Gladrags’ model hunt contest last year.

According to Vipin, the model has been getting threatening calls from moral police and she is avoiding taking calls or talking to anybody in person unless she gets an approval from BCCI.

Poonam made her controversial offer on Twitter just before the semifinal in Mohali.

Elusive Poonam Pandey

As the latest wannabe actress and Kingfisher model Poonam Pandey’s whereabouts are not known after she told a TV channel that she would run in her birthday suit if India won the World Cup, netizens are looking desperately for her and googling every possible keywords.

However, the model has chosen not to make any appearance or even tweet about her status.

So, here are some of the photographs of the Indian Larissa Riquelme. See Poonam Pandey below….

Poonam to go naked in Paris

NOW that we have won the World Cup, the person everybody is searching for is Poonam Pandey — the svelte beauty, who declared that she would go naked if India wins. Her mobile has been switched off since the match got over.
Before the finals, Poonam wrote to BCCI that she was serious about baring it all for the boys, as it would be a therapeutic method to boost and inspire people to perform better in any field. When asked about this cheap publicity, Poonam firmly said that she was doing this to excite the Indian players to play better, and not for her own publicity.
After creating such a huge hype among the public, the missing beauty seems to have disappointed many by not keeping up her promise.

Immediately after the match was over, there were several Facebook captions like, “Where is Poonam?”, “I’m waiting for you Poonam”, “Where the hell is Poonam Pandey. I bought an HD TV for you!”, etc. According to the latest news, she has requested the BCCI to choose another country such as Paris for her striptease, to avoid controversies in India.
However, there are many broken hearts all over the country including Chennai where fans eagerly waited for a grand show after the victory. Charles, marketing professional, who wittily stated in Facebook that he bought HD TV to watch Poonam strip, says, “We knew that she wouldn’t make it, but the point is, people go to such extremes for cheap publicity.”
However, the conservative lot is strictly against such acts. Paraag, an entrepreneur, says, “Giving such nasty statements doesn’t make them a star. Comparing an emotional moment such as this with a cheap act by a model, is an indecent thing in itself.”

According to Kannan, psychologist, such acts depend on human behaviour in different situations. “There is something called blue print in a human brain that deals with attitude towards culture and circumstances. It gets modified according to the place of activities.”

Poonam, whose phone was flooded with threatening messages from the public, was last heard tweeting, “The magic worked.”
Now, the question here is: Was it all a gimmick to encourage the men in blue to win? If so, how did we win? Was it because of Poonam or Dhoni’s final six?

From noodle straps to going topless: Mandira Bedi

Women and cricket is the hot debate, so who’s winning and who’s whining?

Mandira Bedi’s noodle-straps are now part of official cricketing folklore, but also for reasons unconnected (no pun intended) to the accompanying controversy. I remember sitting with a group of friends when the wardrobe malfunction happened on live TV and it turned out to be a case of wardrobe male-function. It appeared that none of the males present had even heard of noodle-straps and their use, or misuse. Sure, we had all seen them (barely) on fashionistas and social fireflies but like a lot of garments and accessories worn by women these days, it is prudent to let their nomenclature and usage remain an unfathomable mystery. Mandira’s sartorial choice was, in that context, a revelation for us men who till then had only equated noodles with Chinese takeaway.

It was actually more than that. Cricketing purists and pundits are still grinding their teeth, but it was a transformational even historic moment in the gentleman’s game; mainly because gentlemen were no longer its sole custodians. Here, for the first time, women had breached what was a cozy, exclusive male club and cricket and the commentary box would never be the same. From the 2003 World Cup where Ms Bedi made her contentious debut, to its 2011 version, we’ve come a long way, baby. Make that baby bulge. Not only is she back, all aglow in the first flush of pregnancy, but so are the host of other women, from TV studios to the media centre and spectators, who have literally added an extra innings to the sport.

Veena supports India at the WCC

"Saturday April 2, 1983, was the day Kapil Dev brought the first World Cup for India. Insha Allah, Saturday April 2, 2011, is going to be (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni's day. Pakistan is out of the World Cup, so all my loyalties are now with India." That's the new cricket commentator Veena Malik for you.

The irrepressible shock queen is in India to be part of two cricket shows on television. "Some people compare me to Mandira Bedi. But I am happy being who I am. I love cricket, though commenting on it is not something I thought I would do. But life is such. You never know where it takes you," she said.

Veena does have her favourites among the cricketers from both sides. "Yuvraj (Singh) and (Shahid) Afridi both play from the heart and believe in playing fair cricket. No one can buy their loyalties. I'm a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar, but only when he isn't playing against Pakistan," she chuckles.

Amitabh Bachchan celebrates India's victory

Amitabh Bachchan believes that if he watches a cricket match, India will lose. But he not only sat in front of the TV to see the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final here Saturday, also hit the road in open car to celebrate with others when the home team won.

"Me superstitious about watching match coz' we lose... but after 33 for 2 (sic), don't know why, sat in front of TV till the six from (M.S.) Dhoni," he tweeted after India's six wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium.

"Diya ghuma ke, ghuma ke, ghuma ke!!," he wrote, very excited.

The 68-year-old says he hadn't previously witnessed the kind of euphoria in the city that followed India's victory.

"No one is saying anything...just screaming!! It is bizarre!!! Roads lanes everywhere jammed with people and screams!! Never before!"

"Anhonee ko hooni kar de, honi ko anhonee ! Ek jagah jab jama hon tinoh - Rajni, Gajni aur Dhoni!!!" he tweeted.

The megastar's excitment was evident from the fact that he was simultaneoulsy updating his Twitter page and his blog.

"We won ! We are the World Champions! Yeeeehhhhh!!," he posted on his blog.

Amitabh, too, joined the jubilant crowds with son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.

"It is madness outside!! Abhishek, Aishwarya and me on top of the roof of a car, waving tricolor and just screaming!! Hundreds with us."

"We are the world!! Just back from...sitting on top of the roof, waving the tricolor and just screaming!!"

PETA asks Poonam to strip

An animal welfare organisation has offered a naked ad campaign for model Poonam Pandey, who has vowed to bare all if India wins the World Cup.

Poorvi Joshipura, Chief Functionary of PETA India has requested Ms Pandey “consider stripping for a good cause” and help PETA call on the International Cricket Council to opt for synthetic balls over leather ones.

The organisation says that synthetic balls are not only kinder to animals, but also safer for the environment. With the technology available today, they can be made durable, water resistant, and customised to meet players’ needs.

In a letter to Ms Pandey, Ms Joshipura wrote: “I can see from your vow to bare all if India wins the World Cup that you are comfortable in your own skin and are a cricket fan. Wonder if you would consider using your skin to save animals’ skins in an ad for PETA."
