As if Kid Cudi didn't have enought to deal with this month...he was held at gunpoint by police in Los Angeles Tuesday (Dec. 21), in a case of mistaken identity! (Wow) This happens just days after he left his opening slot on Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour.
Let's rewind real quick, Cudi punched a fan in the face one week ago, which he then left the Lady Gaga tour.
His people say he left for schedule conflicts but everyone else pretty much speculates that it was definitely because he punched that fun! (Click here to get those details & hear what the fan had to say about getting punched!)
Ok so let's bring it back to what happened yesterday, Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, was in the midst of a photo shoot for NME magazine when he and his entourage were pulled over on Fairfax Avenue by police offers in search of suspected robbers.
NME reporter Emily Mackay later blogged about the incident, describing a dramatic scene that included "an angry, shaven-headed American policeman screaming, 'KEEP YOUR TWO HANDS VISIBLE' while pointing a gun at the back your head through the rear window."
According to reports, Cudi and his entourage were ordered to exit three vehicles and kneel on the ground, where they were handcuffed. Police soon released the group, however, upon realizing that they had detained the wrong party.
"Such is life, apparently, when you roll with Kid Cudi and his crew," added Mackay.
Police then ordered everyone out of the car and forced the passengers to the ground on their knees, reportedly responding to a call from a neighbor in the area saying that a group of men were looting.
Writer Emily Mackay was one of those on the scene, and according to her blog post about the incident, she, Cudi and others were handcuffed. She said that there were "10 or so armed police officers with an alarming amount of weaponry pointed in our direction as a helicopter circles overhead."
The rapper was released moments later, and the officer in charge claimed it was a case of mistaken identity. Cudi appeared "jovial" after the incident, Mackay said.
"Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch," Cudi later told NME about the ordeal. "I'm just happy to be back. I'm a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable."
A representative for the LAPD had no comment when contacted by MTV News. Representatives for Cudi were not available as of press time. The rapper's manager, Plain Pat, tweeted about the incident, assuring fans that Cudi was not arrested.
